On behalf of the Geo-Information Society of South Africa (GISSA) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for AfricaGIS2005, I would like to express my appreciation to the International Organising Committee of AfricaGIS2005 for entrusting the South African GIS community with the responsibility of hosting AfricaGIS2005. The LOC is inspired by the unique opportunity that AfricaGIS2005 presents as a meeting platform for people from South Africa, the African continent and abroad, who share a common interest in capturing, managing, manipulating and applying geo-information in Africa.
We are very encouraged by the positive response received from government departments and the private sector, and by their commitment to assisting in ensuring an affordable conference of the highest quality.
It is indeed an honour and a privilege to stage this event for the first time in South Africa, and the LOC is committed to organising an academic and social event that will afterwards be remembered for the right reasons. We invite you to use this opportunity to build friendships, share experience, expertise and achievements on Geo-information working for Africa. We look forward to welcoming you during October/ November 2005 with true South African hospitality.
